MAP-ULA for iPhone and iPad · Last updated 7 September 2026

MAP-ULA collects nothing. There is no account to create, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your progress, your board and your settings are kept on your own device.

The single exception is Game Center, Apple's own leaderboard service, and it is described in full below.

What is not collected

There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking of any kind, and no third-party SDKs. MAP-ULA has no server of its own, no account of its own, and it never asks you for your name, your email address, or any other personal detail. Apart from the two leaderboard figures described below, nothing the app holds is ever transmitted anywhere.

Game Center

MAP-ULA has two Game Center leaderboards: countries found and average lines used. Game Center is run by Apple, using the Game Center account already attached to your Apple Account, MAP-ULA does not create an account and never sees your password.

What the app sends, and all it sends: the number of countries you have found, and your average lines per solve. Two numbers. It sends no name, no email address, no device identifier, no location, and nothing about which countries you found or when you played. What it receives back is your position on those two boards and how many players are on them.

Your score, your streak, and the three initials you type after a run are not sent to Game Center. They stay on the device.

Sign-in happens the first time you open the Records screen, not when you launch the game. If you are not signed in to Game Center, or you dismiss the prompt, the app continues working as before and simply shows no ranking; nothing is sent, and nothing is lost. You can turn Game Center off for MAP-ULA at any time in the iOS Settings app, under Game Center.

Anything Apple holds in Game Center is covered by Apple's privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/), not by this one.

What is stored, and where?

Everything MAP-ULA remembers is kept on your own device:

- Your progress: countries found, score, streak, stars per country, and which continents you have completed.

- Your high-score board: the three initials you type after a run, with that run's score and streak. Ten places, stored only on your device.

- Your settings: language, theme, region filter, and whether sound is on.

- The photo you choose as a background, if you choose one. It is copied into the app's own storage on your device and is never uploaded or shared. MAP-ULA never asks for access to your photo library: tapping "Choose a photo" opens Apple's own picker, which runs outside the app, and only the single image you tap is handed back. The app cannot see anything else in your library, and iOS says so on the picker itself.

Backups

Because this information lives in the app's normal storage, it is included in your device backups (iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup) in the same way as other apps. Apple handles those backups under Apple's privacy policy, not MAP-ULA. Deleting the app removes the data from your device.

Children

MAP-ULA is rated 4+ and is suitable for children. It collects nothing from anyone, children included. Game Center is governed by the parental controls already built into iOS: where Game Center is restricted on a child's device, the leaderboards simply do not appear and the game is unaffected.

Changes

If a future version of MAP-ULA ever adds another feature that needs data to leave your device,  iCloud progress sync is the one being considered — this policy will be updated before that version is released.
